The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (“MHRA”) is an executive agency of the Department of Health and a Government Trading Fund. The MHRA safeguards public health by regulating the quality, safety, efficacy and performance of medicines and medical devices.  It does this within the UK but also through working with other bodies throughout the world It is recognised within Europe - and internationally - as one of the world’s leading regulatory authorities with significant influence in scientific and policy discussions at global level. The Agency also has a key role in supporting innovation.

The organisation is made up of three distinct but complementary business centres: the MHRA Regulatory Centre; the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) and the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD). Together, our centres bring an unrivalled combination of skills, knowledge and experience, making us a global leader in the areas of our responsibilities. Our staff include some of the best medical and scientific experts in our field in the world, supported by a range of corporate professionals, all working towards our common purpose of protecting health and improving lives.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting time for the MHRA; we operate in a fast-changing scientific and healthcare landscape, not only in the UK, but also globally, as we set out ambitious plans for the coming years which will see considerable transformation. Set within this context we are seeking to appoint to the role of Director of Inspection, Enforcement and Standards, a key strategic post within the Agency and a member of the Corporate Executive Team.

This is a rare opportunity to operate at national and international level and have a tangible impact on the strategic direction on the Agency. The successful candidate will lead on the Agency’s Inspection, Enforcement and British Pharmacopeia aspects and represent the organisation with key stakeholders, notably its industry customers and its sponsor, the Department of Health.

We are seeking an exceptional individual who can lead and inspire a high performing, diverse Division that plays a leading international role, particularly in relation to inspection, enforcement and pharmacopoeial matters. Applicants must evidence an appropriate scientific or professional qualification and an outstanding leadership track record. They must demonstrate the ability to handle critical issues relating to medicines, a good understanding of the pharma industry at a senior level, and the ability to credibly engage with healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical industry leaders, other stakeholders and international colleagues.
