Higher Scientific Officer - Addlestone
The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK within the statutory framework of various EC Directives and Regulations, and the Veterinary Medicines Regulations.
We have a vacancy for a Higher Scientific Officer based in Addlestone, Surrey. The core work of this post is to assess pharmaceutical Quality data submitted by companies in support of their applications for marketing authorisations for veterinary medicines, to consider applications to renew or vary existing authorisations, to consider applications to conduct clinical trials and to deal with applications for feed additive authorisations.
You must either have a degree or equivalent in pharmacy, pharmaceutical science, chemistry or other relevant subject, OR have developed extensive pharmaceutical knowledge on the job. You must be prepared to extend your knowledge into areas of Quality assessment that do not already lie within your experience.
Relevant experience, gained either in pharmaceutical practice, within the human or veterinary pharmaceutical (or closely related) industry, or as an assessor within another regulatory body is desirable as is knowledge of UK and European authorisation systems for veterinary medicinal products, and of the animal health and/or livestock industry.
