This work will involve investigating a novel biomarker for the early detection of ovarian cancer. This is an Invest NI Proof Of Concept Grant and therefore the ultimate aim is to obtain robust results that can be used in the development of a commercial product.

The Research Fellow will be an active member of the HGSC research team assisting in the development of research proposals and the planning and delivery of the research activity within a specified area so that the overall research objectives of the project are met. The successful applicant will contribute to the day to day running within this molecular biology lab, including supervision and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The Research Fellow will be required to perform a range of cutting-edge methodologies used in study of DNA based methylation biomarkers.

We will also consider appointing at Research Assistant level. 

This post is available for one year. 

The successful Research Fellow will:

- Hold (or about to obtain) a PhD in life sciences (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related subject)

- Experience in key molecular biology techniques including real time PCR, RNA interference, immunoblotting and mammalian cell culture

- At least three years recent relevant research experience.

The Research Assistant will have:

- Degree in Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences or related area

- At least one year’s relevant experience in molecular biology or related area to include practical experience of real time PCR and genomic DNA assays.

- Experience of assay design including feasibility and validation
