The Pharmacy Department is based within of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England. They are ambitious and forward thinking, striving to ensure that the patient is always at the heart of everything they do.

Following a merger of a number of hospitals a new senior management team structure has been developed to support the Chief Pharmacist. The Associate Chief Pharmacist – Clinical Governance, Education and Training is a key role in the new structure and you will be joining the Trust at an exciting time, whilst at the early stages of the merger.

The Role: They are seeking a dynamic, forward thinking senior pharmacist with strong attention to detail to fulfil the role of Associate Chief Pharmacist.

You will enjoy working at both operational and strategic levels. You must be an excellent communicator. Engaging and negotiating with colleagues at all levels, you will promote excellence in clinical quality, patient safety and quality standards and thus directly drive improvements in the care and experience that patients receive. You will create an environment which promotes and supports safety for their patients and staff; ensuring they are providing the right care for the right patients; and that services users and their carers experience is captured, understood and responded to. You will be accountable for the development and delivery of quality governance strategies which will support the achievement of organisational objectives.

You will also develop a robust education and training programme to ensure all staff have developmental plans and are supported with their career development and mentoring. They have close links with the both of the local pharmacy schools at, University of Birmingham and Aston University. You will be expected to maintain and develop the strategic relationships with both Universities.

You will have demonstrable prior experience of working in a similar role for an Acute NHS Trust or equivalent position in the private sector. You will have a proven track record of achievements, including the introduction of innovation, alongside successful operational changes.

You must demonstrate excellent leadership skills, be self-motivated and resilient.  Excellent interpersonal, organisational and time management skills are also essential. Representation at national networks and professional groups is expected.

 Candidates will be an accomplished professional with the ability to lead their quality and clinical governance agenda and take a pivotal role in preparing the organisation for regulatory inspection. You will be influential and credible with the ability to work across all our clinical directorates and corporate services. You will need to demonstrate an ability to work in partnership and with key stakeholders across the health and social care system.
