The School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo has experienced impressive growth since its inception in 2008. Today, the School is a vibrant and dynamic learning and research environment that is contributing to the advancement of pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences. The Faculty of Science is embarking on the search for the School’s next Director, an exciting opportunity to provide leadership to the School, which enjoys a strong reputation for innovation and creativity in its approach to pharmacy education and research. The School is the only one in Canada to provide co-operative education, a much sought-after program that attracts students and employers alike.

The School of Pharmacy features an impressive roster of faculty, staff and students. Together, they contribute to a stimulating environment, much like the region it calls home. The School features 480 PharmD students, 44 graduate students, 24 full-time faculty and 104 additional faculty members, as well as 29 administrative and teaching staff. The School of Pharmacy’s innovative PharmD program is highly sought after, with 120 students admitted each year.

Strategically located in the heart of Kitchener-Waterloo, known as Canada’s innovation and technology hub, the School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo has established a reputation for innovation and creativity in its approach to pharmacy education and research. Today, the School offers programs of study in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences at all levels, including an exceptional undergraduate pharmacy curriculum that is considered one of the most leading edge in North America.

The School of Pharmacy in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo invites applications from exceptional scholars and researchers at the rank of Full Professor for the position of Hallman Director. This senior leadership role has an anticipated start date of January 1st, 2021.

The Hallman Director is responsible for the overall strategic leadership of the School. Working collegially with the Dean and other Faculty leaders, the Hallman Director will enjoy a welcome amount of autonomy to guide the growth and development of the School of Pharmacy. Setting the academic tone for the School, the Hallman Director provides leadership in pharmacy practice and academia, as well as playing a lead role in the academic planning and management process within the Faculty of Science. The Hallman Director builds relationships between the School and the broader health care community and engages in advancement initiatives that advance the School’s mission.

As the ideal candidate, you are an experienced academic leader with demonstrated experience in a senior administrative role. You have a PhD or PharmD and a strong teaching background in the field of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, and an active research program. You are strategic and visionary, and consistently look for ways to bring innovation and creativity to your work to create efficiencies and new opportunities for growth. You have experience managing a team and are a natural team builder, have strong skills in conflict resolution, and are adept at creating collegial environments characterized by effective communication and collaboration. You are accomplished at building relationships and partnerships and are skilled at leveraging your networks to raise funds and build support.  As a pharmacy professional and advocate with a demonstrated commitment to the profession, you are well-respected in the industry and enjoy effective partnerships and collaboration with professional organizations and allied health professions. Your knowledge of the pharmacy field and post-secondary sector allows you to uniquely understand the need for balance between clinical pharmacy practice and research in the post-secondary environment.

As an appointed member of the Faculty of Science and an Associate Dean, duties include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and supervising graduate students.  Applicants whose research aligns with the strategic plan of the department/school, which constitutes serving as a catalyst for improved medication use and development through experience-based education, discovery, and engagement would be especially appealing.

The salary range for this position at the rank of Professor is $150,000 to $200,000. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptional candidates.
