Job Details

The School of Pharmacy and Life Sciences at RGU is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy Practice to support the delivery of pharmacy courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Considering the fast paced and evolving landscape of pharmacy education, this is an exciting time to be involved with initiatives within the School. We already have a highly successful course portfolio: the undergraduate MPharm course and the postgraduate MSc Clinical Pharmacy Practice, MSc Advanced Pharmacy Practice and Independent Prescribing courses. We are currently involved in the re-design of the MPharm course and postgraduate course portfolio in response to the new GPhC education and training standards and other initiatives such as the Foundation training year, Clinical Academic and Consultant Pharmacist programmes.

We have also initiated a number of overseas teaching and research collaborations with potential opportunities for foreign travel.

The School has established three research themes that align directly with the principal areas of pharmacy education delivered across the taught courses. These three areas are: Research in Chemical Sciences (including analytical chemistry, drug design, formulation science and sterile manufacture of medicines); Research in Biological Sciences (incorporating biomedical sciences, physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and nutrition), and Practice Research (including all patient-facing activities, professional experiences and educational research). Each of these themes is led by an experienced Professor with a proven international research reputation and track record in generating external funding. It would be desirable for the appointee to have experience in aspects of research or service development & evaluation in pharmacy practice.

This role is designed as a full time, permanent post but, depending on suitable applicants, part -time, job share, and secondments may be considered. This post may be particularly attractive for applicants keen to retain a clinical practice base while gaining experience of teaching and research within an academic setting.

You must be eligible for registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacist. Annotation as an Independent Prescriber and active prescriber experience would also be desirable.

Grade 7 Salary Scale: £34,804 – 40,322
Grade 8 Salary Scale: £41,526 – 49,553

Salary on appointment will be dependent upon experience.

Candidates with limited or no prior experience as an academic will be placed on the first point of the Grade 7 scale. Consideration will be given to offering an Academic Attraction Payment (adjusted annually) for those candidates who have specific industry knowledge, skills or, expertise which are required for the position.

Please see the job attachments for further information regarding the Grade 7 and Grade 8 criteria.  Further guidance on Academic Attraction Payments can be found here.
