“Safe and effective pharmacy care at the heart of healthier communities”

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is the independent regulator for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacies in Great Britain. Our role is to protect the public and to uphold public confidence in pharmacy services. The last year has highlighted how pharmacy has been at the forefront of the response to the pandemic and how the needs of the public and the pharmacy sector are continuing to evolve.

We want our Council, as the governing body, to reflect the diversity of the public we serve and the professions we regulate. We are looking for an inspirational Chair to provide leadership to Council and work closely with the Chief Executive and Registrar and wider Senior Leadership Group to achieve our Vision 2030 for ‘safe and effective pharmacy care at the heart of healthier communities’. The Chair will play a key role representing the GPhC, developing important relationships within and outside of the professions. In providing leadership to Council, the Chair will have an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of pharmacy and of health professional regulation.

We are looking for a Chair with proven ability to chair a complex, high-profile organisation, who can operate strategically. The successful candidate will have high-level governance and organisational skills, the ability to lead Council in strategic debate, as well as outstanding interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and the ability to support collective decision-making The Chair will share our commitment to deliver equality, improve diversity, and will be inclusive in dealing with people and issues honestly, fairly and with respect. The role is open to lay and registrant candidates.
