The Medicines Lead for Specialised Commissioning works as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the Specialised Commissioning Medical Director’s team and the Commercial Medicines Directorate’s Head of Medicines Value team to deliver the specialised services medicines programme. 

Working at a national level the post holder will provide professional leadership and advice on the strategic and operational development of this medicines programme to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Working in a collaborative and integrated approach with colleagues across the system the medicines programme aims to improve quality and outcomes for patients, and value for the taxpayer. 

Working closely with the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for England and team, the post holder will have responsibility for the strategic and operational development of the Specialised Services Pharmacy Team and Medicines Optimisation therein, across the NHS in England for Specialised Commissioning including through regions, Integrated Care Systems and local place teams. The postholder will be a member of the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer’s Pharmacy Advisory Group. 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, up to date, senior, clinically orientated pharmacist to shape the future of medicines provision in Specialised Services at a national level. 

Applicants must be a pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, and hold a Master’s degree or equivalent or above, have proven and significant leadership experience at a senior level in the NHS or other public healthcare related industry, that includes managing complex and high profile matters.
