St Helena Island, South Atlantic 2 years FTC available immediately Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. The 22-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care. Offering OTC advice and prescribing for minor ailments, you will work closely with the outpatient triage nurse, managing discharge prescriptions and counselling where necessary. Monitoring prescriptions and advising clinicians on all aspects of medication, you must evaluate and keep abreast of new medications and advise on their adoption. You will utilise the electronic medical record system and maintain and update the Directorates Patient Group Directions, drug prescribing guidance and the St Helena Formulary. In collaboration with clinical colleagues you will maintain, update and monitor compliance with the St Helena Formulary and other pharmaceutical guidelines. This will include attending ward rounds and other meetings with clinical staff to input and advise on prescribing behaviours. You will be supported by three dispensers, a store keeper and a split-post dispenser/store-keeper. Holding a Pharmacy degree with registration and good standing with the General Pharmaceutical Council you must have post-registration clinical experience. Procurement of medical supplies and consumables will be integral to this role and it would be beneficial if the applicant has previous experience as a pharmacist.Being on-call will be a key requirement as is Saturday-working on a rotational basis. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
