ASSISTANT CLINICAL EDITOR – RESEARCH & LEARNING

JOB PURPOSE 

To plan, commission, peer review and edit content for the Learning & Research section of Pharmaceutical Journal Publications and to ensure that the learning and CPD needs of pharmacists in all sectors are reflected throughout the platform according to the PJ Publications editorial strategy, with a particular emphasis on curation of an online learning resource.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Work with the Research & Learning team to expand the range of clinical content across the PJ Publications platform, while ensuring it is accurate, relevant and engaging for pharmacy professionals at all levels of practice;

• Commission, edit and contribute clinical and CPD content for the learning and research sections of Clinical Pharmacist and soft skills learning content for The Pharmaceutical Journal, as well as other material of relevance (including custom publication options) to healthcare professionals across the world, in line with PJ Publications editorial standards;

• Work with the Research & Learning team to ensure articles are written and peer reviewed appropriately by experts in their field;

• Build and maintain communication with the target audience of learning and other material related to clinical pharmacy, and develop a range of expert contacts within a wide range of clinical specialties;

• Collaborate with the Editorial Production team and Managing Editor to ensure the smooth transition of learning content from the platform to print and digital issues, and collaborate with the Art Editor to ensure the highest quality in the visual presentation of the content, including image selection and creation of infographics.

SUCCESS MEASURES

• Deliver the optimal volume and scope of learning articles in line with the editorial strategy.

• Ensure our online resources are a compelling and authoritative offering, and are integrated with the wider RPS learning offering.

• Other sections of the Pharmaceutical Journal Publications benefit from ideas and intelligence relating to clinical practice or learning articles.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS FOR THIS JOB

ESSENTIAL:

• Two years' medical editing or writing experience gained from working in a healthcare or science publishing company or medical communications agency.

• Broad-ranging medical and clinical knowledge and an understanding of the education needs of health professionals and the ability to translate complex scientific data.

• Excellent commissioning, editing and proofing skills, with demonstrable experience in science and medical editorial commissioning.

• Experience managing a peer review process.

• Meticulous attention to detail and a demonstrable ability to work flexibly in a multidisciplinary team.

DESIRABLE:

• Experience working in a combined print/online environment and managing a library of learning content.

• Understanding or previous experience of project management.

• Healthcare-related degree.
