Director of Education and Professional Development

Contract type: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Salary range: Competitive, + excellent benefits

Location: London, 66-68 East Smithfield

Job  Purpose:

Education is a key part of the Society’s strategy. This role is accountable for the provision of the leadership and strategic direction and delivery of the work of the functional area. The Director will lead the team in the design and delivery of the educational strategy and all the educational programmes of the Society including, but not limited to, those which support foundation level practitioners and those undertaking, or progressing towards, advanced levels of practice. You will also support Pharmaceutical Scientist members in their professional advancement and other future categories of membership with their own educational requirements which may arise from time to time.

You will bring insights from educational institutions, Royal Medical Colleges, Royal Societies and other bodies into the organisation in order to shape the entire educational offer of the RPS and to support the development of the pharmacy workforce that meets the needs of patients, the membership, employers and others.

Over the next five years the Director will play an instrumental part in building the capability within the Society to take the educational offer to a new level that builds upon the early success of the Faculty and Foundation programmes. You will work closely with the pharmacy regulator to agree the respective role for each organisation that will see the regulator move towards a role in the quality assurance of a UK approach to postgraduate pharmacy education and training to develop from foundation to advanced practice (including advanced clinical and consultant levels of practice), which is underpinned by ensuring patient safety and delivering the effective use of medicines, while the RPS will promote and define excellence in professional development frameworks, curricula and syllabus development, portfolio standards, credentialing and national examinations or assessments.

To achieve these aims you will work closely with external organisations, partner groups and stakeholders on high level, strategic work streams of reputational significance to the organisation. You will manage budgets within agreed limits, produce reports for the Boards and Assembly as required, manage external panels and consultants.

You will be a full participant in the work of the Executive Leadership Team. You will be expected to take an active interest in, and make an active contribution to, the operation of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, including areas outside of your own functional responsibility.
