The Role

We have a rare opportunity to join us as a Clinical Member of the BNF Joint Formulary Committee (JFC)

The JFC is responsible for the clinical governance of the BNF. This oversight involves review and sign-off of certain additions and changes to BNF content, via electronic forums (monthly) and face-to-face discussions (twice a year in London); the JFC also has a remit to review clinical editorial policies.

Context

BNF Publications (the BNF, BNF for Children and Nurse Prescribers’ Formulary) are used within the NHS and beyond to provide prescribers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals with sound up-to-date information about the use of medicines, ensuring that patients get the best care.

The BNF is a joint venture between the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the BMJ. The editorial team is based at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

BNF Publications are unique in bringing together authoritative, independent guidance on best practice with clinically validated drug information, enabling healthcare professionals to select safe and effective medicines for their patients.

The Joint Formulary Committee (JFC) is the clinical governance board of the BNF. Members of the JFC review significant amendments to the BNF and contribute to clinical policy decisions for the publication.

BNF Publications are looking to recruit two physicians, two pharmacists, and one nurse member to the JFC. The appointments are for three years, beginning in October 2018. Committee work is conducted via monthly electronic forums and two meetings a year in London (meetings are held in private).

In this role you will:

  • Use your clinical experience to contribute to discussions regarding the content of BNF Publications to improve patient care and outcome;
  • contribute to a rewarding and stimulating environment with supportive colleagues;
  • be working for the greater good, affecting the health of large numbers of patients;
  • help to advance prescribing excellence.
